ISSUES
Crime:
Colorado is a hotbed of violent crime, with Pueblo (#1) and Denver (3) both in the top 10. Forbes magazine ranks Colorado as the #4 most dangerous state to live in. We also rank #1 in the nation in auto theft. Auto theft was lowered to a misdemeanor in 2021. Many other incredibly harmful felony crimes that rock our community, such as assault, fentanyl distribution, armed robbery and more have been reduced to nothing more than misdemeanor nuisances and petty crimes. This is an outrage. It favors the criminal and not the victims. In addition, I will strengthen policies that reduce crime and make our communities a safe place that we can all work and thrive in .
Affordable housing:
Overregulation, out of control inflation, supply chain issues and poor energy policy have created unaffordable housing for us all. Today’s “affordable” housing is not affordable because big government continues to invade a free market driving up housing costs across the entire state. We need to reduce or eliminate thoughtless policies that do nothing but drive up the cost of housing. These destructive laws harm our three most vulnerable groups in Colorado, veterans, the elderly and children. We all know someone who has been negatively affected by progressive policy in thousands of state statutes over the last ten years that has created unintended consequences and real life trauma.
TABOR:
For years, legislators in our state house and senate and their supporters through legislation and ballot initiatives have used underhanded techniques in multiple attempts to dismantle TABOR. Voters of the state overwhelmingly voted down Proposition HH in the November 2023 election. However, this year, the sneaky opt-in option for receiving your TABOR refund is in full effect. If you don’t check that you want your TABOR refund at tax filing, the State of Colorado will receive YOUR refund instead to do with as they wish. I will fight to make sure that if there is any surplus in the budget, that the taxpayers will get the proper refund back to their pockets without any sly tactics such as the equality TABOR refund, and redirecting TABOR funds to just low income/no income families.
